Product Introduction

The Core of the Liquefaction Process

The LNG turbo expander is a critical piece of equipment in the natural gas liquefaction process. It functions by expanding high-pressure natural gas or LNG through a turbine wheel, which causes a significant pressure drop and generates the cooling effect required for liquefaction. This makes it an indispensable component in baseload LNG plants, FLNG units, and small-scale LNG facilities.

Designed for Cryogenic Efficiency

Our LNG turbo expander features a high-efficiency radial turbine design. The impeller, precision-machined from high-strength aluminum alloy or stainless steel, is dynamically balanced for high-speed operation. The turbine bearings are typically aerodynamic gas bearings or magnetic bearings that require no lubrication. This oil-free operation is critical to prevent oil vapor contamination, which would compromise the purity of the LNG product.

Performance Range and Skid-Mounted Options

The LNG turbo expander handles flow rates from 0.5 m³/h up to 500 m³/h, with pressure differentials from 0.5 MPa to 10 MPa. The impeller diameter and speed are selected based on the feed gas composition and the required pressure parameters. The unit can be provided as a fully assembled, skid-mounted package, integrating the turbine, bearings, seals, and control systems on a single base for easier site installation.

Quality Assurance and Engineering Support

Each expander undergoes mechanical running tests and aerodynamic performance testing prior to shipment. Our commitment to quality is reflected in our ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 certifications. Our engineering team has extensive experience in LNG equipment, having led multiple national-level R&D and engineering projects. The lead time for a custom-engineered expander is typically 32 weeks. In addition to its role in LNG production, we also offer solutions for natural gas pipeline pressure energy recovery.
